I'm not in the Guardians, but here's something from my earlier epic metal era, a nice classic from the masters of symphonic power metal:
Killer modern groove metal with elements of melodeath and thrash. Even though the band was banned from performing live in my home country, I still think they're not too bad in terms of controversy, so..."SEE WHO GIVES A F***!!"
Arch Enemy? I haven't heard that name in years... Maybe someday I'll try listening to some more of this band again. Female-fronted melodeath at its best!

I'm not in the Pit, but Nevermore knew very well how to blend together power, groove, and thrash metal in their first album, before their subsequent progressive metal albums.
A song from one of the greatest and most influential progressive death metal albums ever! And it inspired the name of one of my favorite progressive deathcore bands.
Another example of early Tiamat when they were still death-doom, but here they're more death than doom with a black metal vibe.

This is too much of a psychedelic metal ballad-like track that doesn't help the original controversial album production by Kelly Gray. The lyrics, melodies, and atmosphere are still good, but the style and production is what makes it a real flip-off.

I agree too, Ben. However, some other websites don't. For example, Wikipedia has enough sources that say genres like symphonic black metal and symphonic death metal are subgenres of symphonic metal as much as black metal or death metal, and they stay in the symphonic metal article, "so a user looking for variants of symphonic metal will find them within the article about symphonic metal." But I respect your thoughts and prefer NOT to start a great debate with other sites about what counts as symphonic metal. Also I cancelled this request for a new submission.
There are some bands in my playlist that each have at least one cover album but aren't in the site yet. I'll write a list of cover albums to add, but in a separate thread since they're not all in The Pit. List coming soon...

By the way, have you ever considered adding cover albums? Sure, all those cover albums have are just...covers, and some people here (such as yourself) are not really fans of covers. But some cover albums are an essential part of their respective bands' discographies, and there a few covers from those albums that are as popular as their other singles. It's almost a shame that they aren't included in this site. So if you agree to start adding some cover albums, I'll give you a few to start with. Deal?

I'm not in The Pit, but Lamb of God released a cover album with their original controversial name Burn the Priest. Boy am I glad this earlier name is just for this album. Lamb of God is their real identity!
For a song titled "Laser Speed", it's really just boring acoustic Latin jazz/bossa nova elevator music.

I don't feel Septic Flesh (they will always be Septic Flesh to me, regardless of their recent change to Septicflesh) should be in The Guardians. Similar to the way Fleshgod Apocalypse should not in any way sit alongside Iron Maiden and Helloween, Septic Flesh just don't fit there.
If we had a subgenre called Symphonic Death Metal, then I'm certain that Fleshgod Apocalypse and Septic Flesh would sit comfortably within it, and once again it would not be a subgenre of Symphonic Metal.
Would anyone not find it weird if Fleshgod Apocalypse's Agony album was in the top 10 Guardian releases (it never would be, but I'm sure you get my point)?

Yeah, I have quite a wide time range of metal for a young metalhead born in the late 90s, from as early as the early 90s to the present day. Maybe someday I can go deeper into the Metallica era (mid 80s), but I'll keep my time range at 3 decades for now.
Roses are red, violets are blue. BTBAM was metalcore back then, yes that is true. Now they're progressive death metal, get those metalcore theories out of there you!

Just wondering if it would be possible to submit releases to The Hall of Judgement that don't have a metal primary on RYM. Personally I think that Blood Ceremony's debut not having a metal primary, despite sounding like Sabbath jamming with Ian Anderson and Grace Slick, is a travesty and would like to be able to submit it (and others like it) for consideration by the more metal-savvy users of Metal Academy.

Wow, SilentScream, we're really seeing eye to eye in this thread! I know you directed that last comment to Ben, but yeah, that Everything Counts cover really flows perfectly in both the music and the lyrical theme. It's not really my favorite song in that album, but it still makes a smooth connection, and I think this is vocalist Anders Friden's first partial attempt on clean singing. Way better than their cover of Wicked Game, showing once again that the band's melodeath past reigns higher than their alt-metal present!
A few hidden tracks are OK for me, but the ones I hate the most are bad enough to make the top 5 in my sh*t-list (see above). I like covers that metalize popular songs, but cover albums where the band purposely tries to sound like each song's original style (Between the Buried and Me's The Anatomy Of and The Dillinger Escape Plan's Plagiarism) are kinda mundane and, that's right, PLAGIARISM, though NOT bad enough to make the top 10 in my list. I still think Avatar's South Park cover is the worst metal cover...
