Gator's Comments

I very much enjoyed reading this review, and I just want to add to it a little bit and give some other insight.

Over the last year I got very into glam/hair metal. I'd like to see it become a clan unto itself but I don't think the admin will ever go for it. The thing is this, yes glam has some goofy shit going on, and as a similar working class kid I didn't resonate with the hard partying stuff either.

However, what I've come to learn is that within the confines of glam metal there is sort of a micro genre-I call it dark glam. This is largely made by the B-listers of the genre. It's a place where either the party ends, never began in the first place, or is ongoing but you just want to go home. The sex is over, and you're just left with a hangover, an overdose, STDs, and regret. When this happens you get lyrics that are somewhere in the territory of melancholy, and the glitz and sleekness of the production become this horrifying inescapable atmosphere-and to me-its in that space where glam is as heavy as anything else. Early Motley Crue, Wasp, and the first Twisted Sister album live there, but my favorite band in this arena is Faster Pussycat. Texas also featured a band called Dangerous Toys that was sort of an anti-glam band. Their singer Jason McMaster was actually who Pantera called to replace Terry Glaze first-not Phil Anselmo so there's a wild timeline to contemplate.

I'd make the case that as far as the PMRC thing goes. Dee Snyder did more to fight Tipper and her cronies than Blackie did. Blackie rage baited the shit out of them, but Dee actually showed up in court-He wasn't gonna take it!

Note: it's a year and have later. Todor has never written a review to defend this album.

I understand the music, I just didn't like it, and this was my review. Go write yours and defend it, but don't come around here accusing me of ignorance.

a) her kit doesn't sound THAT bad.
b)I bought her a new kit just to make sure.

Indeed, and thank you.

I once read that “sometimes Metallica gets it wrong, but we forgive them, because when Metallica gets it right, they get it more right than anybody else.”

I agree with about 90%.

Ben this is a truly excellent review. This was my first time listening to this album and as per usual I read all of the other's before attempting my own. I stayed on this page as I listened through the album, using it as a listeners guide to follow the story, and it greatly enhanced my listening experience. Thank You.
