Interesting review Saxy.  I have Winter on CD but couldn't get along with The Dead Light as well either.  Heard good things elsewhere about this new one so I will be checking it out this weekend when I will be out walking in some forests in the Lakes.

Who listens to death metal to "sing along" to the vocals??

Interesting review Sonny, will be looking to check this out myself soon.  Interesting interview with Semjaza over at Bardo Methodology if you haven't seen already.

Ha, mental that we both wrote our reviews at more or less the same time and we both hate it to boot.

Nice review Xeph.  Immolation are one the most trusted bands I have in my collection and I will buy anything they put out, cold, without having listened to any of it if possible.  Pre-ordered my vinyl of this for April drop.  I believe they peaked at Close To A World Below but that they still manage to stay relevant in death metal to this day (and your review appears to corroborate my thoughts) better than Suffocation for example.

Glad you liked it bud.

Thanks Sonny.  I might have to YouTube that as I was using a stream.

Great review, your best to date Sonny.  You can tell when an album gets reviewed that really means something to the author and this is most definitely clear here.

Wow.  Go easy on the detail why don't you?

Lots of nostalgia here.  Great review.  My first full length Heavy Metal album I listened to was Power & The Glory so Saxon hold a specal place for me in my metal evolution.  I do prefer Strong Arm of the Law but recognise the qualities of this record too.

Ha, I love a scathing album review.

Great review.  Agree with all of it barring the Reifert vocals bit.  The babbling mania of his style is one of the draws of Autospy for me.  That whole loose feel to the playing is matched perfectly by Reifert's vocals.  "Mental Funeral" is where it is at for me with Autopsy and I have lots of time for "Macabre Eternal" (as if my username didn't give that away).

Didn't even know this had been released.  They were a band I picked up on during my days of using Bandcamp.  Off to investigate, cheers.

Nice review.  I have a preference for this over the debut too as I had this on vinyl as my first WASP record so played it to death and didn’t come to the debut until much later.

With you here.  Never understood the praise this record gets as some ‘standout’ release. It is, for me, a decidedly average DM record and I like most of Van Drunen’s work.  Give me ‘Last One on Earth’ above this any day.

I think this is a well measured review.  There are a few albums by artists who have made absolute classics and then taken some turn or twist on their next release that although may feel perturbing doesn’t necessarily make the release bad, just different.  As you say the previous two releases were virtually flawless but this one still showcases obvious talent albeit in an alternative direction.  I think it is still strong album composition wise just not as memorable overall.
