Metal Academy Radio Playlist Suggestions - The Fallen Edition
My thoughts exactly Sonny. In fact, in order to give our three other contributing members of The Fallen as much runtime as possible I was intending to use my own thirty minutes to fill in gaps in our subgenre coverage for this first one. Perhaps if we continue with this format & expand it across the other clans then I could leave an allowance for an additional person so that I can use that space for this purpose. Good discussion.
Yes, Daniel, I personally think you would be better keeping your own allocation for your personal selections and then provide an additional slot to maybe cover those under-represented areas of the respective clans. It seems unfair that you should sacrifice your own personal choices in order to present a wider selection of tracks.
To be honest I've been making my selections based on the gaps that needed filling since day one so that everyone else got theirs. Luckily I really dig drone metal. :)
I'm quite fond of a bit of drone myself, so I'll endeavour to help out with the heavy lifting on that topic. It's with gothic metal that I need others to carry the load!!
Here are my suggestions for April's playlist, following the 5 tracks in 30 minutes rule that I've applied to when I'm submitting for my 4 clans:
Cult of Luna - "Hollow" (9:59) from Cult of Luna (2001)
Lacuna Coil - "Swamped" (4:00) from Comalies (2002)
Mastodon - "Sleeping Giant" (5:36) from Blood Mountain (2006)
Paradise Lost - "The Longest Winter" (4:31) from Medusa (2017)
Within Temptation - "Deep Within" (4:30) from Enter (1997)
Total length: 28:36
OK, 30 minutes you say...
Written in My Scars by Shape of Despair off Monotony Fields (2015) - yes, this is my second track off this album, but until they put more Shape of Despair on Spotify, you all better get used to it. Possibly my favourite band ever. (7:51) - Funeral Doom Metal
Another World by Light Field Reverie off Another World (2020) - I just stumbled across this band literally a few minutes ago, but decided to go for something fresh and new. It's got Heike Langhans from Draconian, so it's got that going for it. (5:50) - Gothic Metal
Funeral Owlblood by Bethlehem off Dark Metal (1994) - I decided to include this track because I'm not sure how many metal fans realise that Bethlehem once played decent death doom. This track has a smattering of black metal, but should give you some idea what to expect of the rest of the album. (6:52)
The Light That Would Fade by Doom:VS off Aeternum Vale (2006) - Doom:VS doesn't always hit the mark for me, but tracks like this one certainly do. There's another connection to Draconian here, with sole member Johan Ericson also playing for that band. (9:29)
Total Length: 30:02 (consider the extra 2 seconds as bonus material )
This month's criteria for The Fallen playlist submissions is: 24 min each clan member, no track limits

Esoptron by Septic Flesh off Esoptron (1995)
I never considered this to be a Death Doom Metal album, but RYM clearly does. This was the first Septic Flesh album I ever heard (thanks Daniel!) and I immediately loved it.
Allegoria by Bethlehem off Mein Weg (2004)
Well, given few Metal Academy attendees seem very keen on my standard Gothic Metal representation, allow me to throw you a curve ball. Mein Weg is a HUGELY underrated album, that can't possibly be represented by a single track. Yes, it's insane. Yes, the Gothic Metal tag doesn't really capture it. But hey, everyone should be introduced to this at some point. There's nothing else like it.
Through Her Silvery Body by Swallow the Sun off The Morning Never Came (2003)
It took about 60 seconds for me to believe that this band was going to be one of my absolute favourites...ever! Sadly, they've not quite lived up to that, but this track is a good example of why I thought that.
Relention by Katatonia off Discouraged Ones
An album that confused me at first (I wanted more Brave Murder Day), but I soon came to appreciate it almost as much. This isn't the best track off this melancholic classic, but it's a good one, and my 24 minutes were dangerously close to running out.
Running Time: 23 minutes and 33 seconds.
My suggestions for September's playlist:
Temple of Void - Leave the Light Behind (5:19) from The World That Was (2020)
Saint Vitus - Saint Vitus (4:49) from Saint Vitus (1984)
Witchrot - Million Shattered Swords (7:03) from Hollow (2021)
Inter Arma - Citadel (6:40) from Sulphur English (2020)
Total runtime 23:51
Here are my suggestions for September's Fallen playlist (I'll make sure any multi-clan suggestions fit well with the playlist I'm submitting to):

Theatre of Tragedy - "Forever is the World" (4:40) from Forever is the World (2009)

This might be my last time submitting suggestions for The Fallen playlists. I'm cutting down on some Fallen-related activities due to running low on ideas and other personal reasons I will explain later.
A Dying Wish by Anathema off The Silent Enigma (1995)
Coalescent of the Inhumane Awareness by Tyranny off Tides of Awakening (2005)
Stellar Tombs by Draconian off Sovran (2015)
Total Running Time: 23 minutes and 13 seconds

Andi, can you please confirm whether you're intending on contributing any The Fallen playlist submissions this month? If not then I'll bump up the time allocations to 30 minutes each for Sonny, Ben & I.
