Early metal (1970-1977)
So after filling a few gaps over the last couple of months I feel that I'm in a really good position to post my Top Ten Early Metal Releases (1970-1977) list. Why that period? Well, there weren't enough metal-related releases in those years to sustain a full top ten for the individual years. That isn't the case for 1978 onwards. Anyway... this is what I've come up with & I've considered any release that's currently listed under a metal genre in the Academy database, regardless of my own personal feelings on their metal credentials.
01. Black Sabbath - "Paranoid" (1970)
02. Black Sabbath - "Sabotage" (1975)
03. Black Sabbath - "Black Sabbath" (1970)
04. Black Sabbath - "Master of Reality" (1971)
05. Rainbow - "Rising" (1976)
06. Black Sabbath - "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (1973)
07. Judas Priest - "Sad Wings of Destiny" (1976)
08. Black Sabbath - "Vol. 4" (1972)
09. Quartz - "Quartz" (1977)
10. Bang - "Bang" (1972)

And yes I'm aware that "Sin After Sin" isn't listed. Feel free to create your own lists & post them here for discussion.
There isn't, in truth, a lot to choose from here is there, but here's my top 10:
1. Black Sabbath - "Paranoid" (1970)
2. Black Sabbath - "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (1973)
3. Motörhead - "Motörhead" (1977)
4. Judas Priest - "Sad Wings of Destiny" (1976)
5. Rainbow - "Rising" (1976)
6. Black Sabbath - "Master of Reality" (1971)
7. Black Sabbath - "Sabotage" (1975)
8. Judas Priest - "Sin After" (1977)
9. Black Sabbath - "Vol. 4" (1972)
10. Black Sabbath - "Technical Ecstasy" (1976)
There's no doubting Black Sabbath's domination of 1970's heavy metal that's for sure.
