The New Music Thread : The Fallen Edition
The fourth studio album from this Swedish doom metal outfit.
Sludge / Doom from Ballymena's Elder Druid
Released 17/01/20 and available on Bandcamp
These songs are veritable monsters, the riffs are huge sludgy slabs of doom over miles-thick foundations laid down by the bass and drums, that crush all before them mercilessly and leave a wrung out husk behind. (4/5)
Official video for the track Golgotha:
Sludge / Doom from German husband and wife duo Grin
Released 17/01/20 and available on Bandcamp
Heavy without being overbearingly crushing and the psych overtones add a positivity to the album's atmosphere. If I had to describe it in a couple of words, I would call it space sludge, a melding of the vastness of space psych with a dense sludge core.
Official video for the track Orbital Grace:
Grey Skies Fallen - Cold Dead Lands out Friday 24th January.
Impressively epic progressive doom from New York if this preview track is anything to go by.
Zolfo - Delusion Of Negation
Released Friday January 24th on Spikerot Records.
Ridiculously heavy and desperate-sounding sludge metal from Italy.
Puritanical Masochism - heavy as hell death doom / sludge metal from Danish all-female four-piece Konvent, released 24th January on Napalm Records.
Frayle - 1692. Released 14th February on Lay Bare Recordings.
Doom metal with light and ethereal female vocals.
Godthrymm - Reflections. Released 14/02/20 on Profound Lore.
Debut album from Hamish Glencross' latest band that should appeal to any fan of UK doom metal.
Huntsmen - Mandala of Fear
(Released March 13, 2020)
I wasn't impressed by this album at first, but after letting it sink in I'm a big fan. Definitely a grower of an album, should be on every Cult of Luna fan's radar. It's a bit slow and soft to get started, but after "God Will Stop Trying" I was hooked.
The new album from West Yorkshire's finest gothic doom/death exponents Paradise Lost entitled "Obsidian" which is to be released on 15th May.
The new live album from Swiss doom metallers Triptykon (with the Metropole Orkest) entitled "Requiem" is to be released on 15th May.
Requiem (Live At Roadburn 2019) marks the bombastic conclusion of a project over 30 years in the making: the legendary Celtic Frost/Triptykon "Requiem" performed for the first time in its entirety and with full classical orchestration (by the Dutch Metropole Orkest). “Requiem” (46:00 min.) is composed of three chapters: "Rex Irae" (first appeared on 1987’s Into The Pandemonium album by Celtic Frost), "Grave Eternal" (newly written middle part), and "Winter" (first appeared on 2006’s Monotheist album by Celtic Frost).
The brand new live album from London stoner metallers Orange Goblin entitled "Rough & Ready, Live & Loud" which is scheduled to be released on 4th May.
The new album from US sludge metallers Old Man Gloom entitled "Seminar VIII: Light of Meaning" will be released on 22nd May.
Bell Witch & Aerial Ruin - Stygian Bough (June 26, 2020)
Bell Witch have announced a collaboration with Aerial Ruin for a new concept album, really looking forward to seeing if this will be close to Mirror Reaper's style or something different entirely.
The new split album from Spanish neofolk outfit Sangre de Muérdago & French drone metallers Monarch! which is due to be released on 20th May.
The new E.P. from Chicago sludge metallers Bongripper entitled "Glaciers".

Sunn O))) - "Life Metal Rehearsal 250518"
Sunn O))) - "Life Metal Rehearsal 260518"

‘During the writing of SUNN O)))‘s opus Life Metal, Greg and Stephen created three rehearsal demos of riffs and production ideas in Anderson’s Downtown LA rehearsal studio. They are raw, primordial, translucent, amusing, rough, heavy-as-fuck and paralyzing.’
The new single from Belgian sludge metallers Amenra entitled "De zotte morgen".
The new live album from English sludge metallers Fudge Tunnel entitled "Best Of The Desk - Live In Europe 1993".
It's been out for a couple of months now, but this album is terrific. For fans of Solstice, Warning, Apostle of Solitude, Hour of 13 etc.
Death the Leveller are 3/4 of Mael Mordha (and are better):
