Track Of The Day - The Fallen Edition
The fantastic closing track and highlight of Cult of Luna's new Raging River EP, Wave After Wave.
An absolute doom monster from this month's The Fallen feature release.
My favourite track from Belgians Wolvennest's latest album, the imperious Temple:
I was hoping to choose this truly awesome slab of planet-killing drone metal for my (sole) suggestion on May's playlist, but wouldn't you know it - it's not on Spotify.
So here it is - listen and weep, oh fragile humanity!!
Dutch gothic metal for fans of Draconian & 90's Theatre Of Tragedy & Tristania.

As one of the only two songs of their debut with only Sharon den Adel on vocals (the other song being "Restless"), those female vocals and symphonic elements helped the band in their direction out of the gothic doom in Enter to the symphonic metal of Mother Earth and most of their subsequent albums...
One of my absolute favourite Italian Doom tracks. I just can't stop playing this mutha at the minute!
From Doomraiser's 2006 album Lords of Mercy:
Possibly the best doom/death track ever recorded. It still absolutely decimates me 26 years later.
Some outstanding Finnish gothic metal for fans of MonumentuM, Katatonia & "Wildhoney"-era Tiamat.
Some outstanding Finnish gothic metal for fans of MonumentuM, Katatonia & "Wildhoney"-era Tiamat.
An essential part of probably the pleasantly darkest doomy gothic metal journey I've ever encountered so far...
Despite my real passion for Anneke van Giersbergen's gorgeous & powerful vocals, my favourite track from The Gathering's highly regarded 1995 "Mandylion" album is actually this ominous, majestic & heavily Dead Can Dance inspired tribal ambient piece.
The Flight of Sleipnir's latest, Eventide, is a great example of blackened doom metal and this is the best track on it:
My small talk about "Darkness and Hope" reminded me of that Moonspell album and song:
Crusty Californian sludge metal for fans of Eyehategod, Acid Bath & Corrupted.
Two awesome dark doom bands I now enjoy:
The wonderful opening track from this Oregan-based post-sludge/doom solo act M.S.W. whose debut album "Obliviosus" (2020) should appeal to fans of Hell, Lento & Dark Buddha Rising.
Crusty Californian sludge metal for fans of Sea Of Deprivation, Damad & Noothgrush.
One of the most wonderful female vocal performances in all of metal from this Dutch gothic metal outfit. For fans of Tiamat, The 3rd & the Mortal & Theatre Of Tragedy.
English gothic metal for fans of Cemetary, Tiamat & late 90's Katatonia.
Wonderfully intense post-sludge metal from the Californain masters of the subgenre. For fans of Isis, Cult of Luna & Amenra.
An epic 50 minute French funeral doom metal excursion for fans of Ea, The Howling Void & Remembrance.
Spectacular Birmingham-based funeral doom metal for fans of Evoken, Thergothon & Skepticism.
Very professionally produced US stoner rock for fans of Samsara Blues Experiment, Black Pyramid & early Weedpecker.
Classic Finnish doom metal for fans of Saint Vitus, Lord Vicar & Spiritus Mortis.
