What I've been up to(Teaching, Life, Band, Concerts) and the search for Jurassic Metal.

It has been a long time since I did anything on the site, so I am gonna open up with why.

Some may know that I work as a teacher. I am a special niche substitute that teaches all subjects and grades, but I work at a singular building as a staff member rather than as an independent per diem contractor. Anyways what this usually means is that I just fill vacancies for other teachers who are out, and I don't have much in the way of outside of school responsibilities. However, this year things were different. Two days before the school year started one of the special education teachers went elsewhere for work, and I was charged with picking up their classes, so I became responsible for lesson planning, grade book keeping, and other outside duties I usually wouldn't have. I had to learn how do those things and put them in place. Then about halfway through another member of the special education team quit, so I picked up their caseload as well for a few weeks. Then yet another person was hired, and at that point I needed to help train them.
Outside of work I have been working on my band, creating a band space at my own residence, then there was the holidays and so all the things that come with that... and then I got very sick.

So in short, life kinda happened, and I was stretched for time for pleasure.

While I was out sick, I got into watching dinosaur documentaries, and then I purchased a video game called Path of Titans in which you play as a dino of your choice, and you wander around a big map site seeing, doing quests, and attempting to grow from hatchling to adult. It's pretty relaxed and a good time. I just need an accompanying soundtrack.

Surely, dinosaurs being large heavy, often fierce creatures lend themselves as good subject matter for metal music? Yet I can't think of any dino tunes. I can think of Moby Dick tunes, and dragon tunes, but not dino tunes. Post em if you got them.

I am also still interested in doing a spotify jam some night so let me know either here or in DM if you'd like to attend one of those.

In the live music world I saw Nervosa, and will be seeing VENOM INC tomorrow night.

It's good to be back.

I'm sure I've heard a track or two with dinosaur themes over the years, but can't recall which ones. A quick search of Metal-Archives returns the below though.

What?! No dinosaur-themed European power metal bands out there?? The shame!!! Manowar already had a head-start on the costumes with "Into Glory Ride" too.

Welcome back, Zach! I found some more dinosaur-themed bands in Metal Archives, more than just death/extreme metal:

The only bands in the list that I've heard of are European power metal bands (here they are, Daniel!) Hevisaurus, SauruXet, and Victorius. Also this Mastodon track kind of counts as Jurassic metal, starting with the mighty roar of a T-rex in Jurassic Park:

It's not really about Dinosaurs, but it does feature a prominent Roar (it's kinda funny)

I'll have to get to those later, maybe this weekend. I was playing the game earlier with a guy whose username was Skraekoedian.

Jurassic metal.  Sounds like a doom sludge hybrid with apocalyptic classical undertones and deep reptilian growls.  I like the idea.
