2024 Metal Academy Awards Discussion - The Revolution Edition
It's that time of year again i.e. the time when we start to think about which releases will be crowned as the pinnacle of their clans for the previous calendar year. I've opened this thread to house the discussions around our The Revolution Clan Release of the 2024.
These are the 2024 releases that have gained the most attention from our members:
Knocked Loose - "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To"
ERRA - "Cure"
Imminence - "The Black"
Graphic Nature - "Who Are You When No One Is Watching?"
In Hearts Wake - "Incarnation"
What other releases should our members be checking out?
The only Revolution release I have on my list is Drown in Sulphur's "Dark Secrets of the Soul", which I actually dug quite a bit. I know, me and deathcore eh!
I haven't completed a full review of any 2024 The Revolution releases as yet but have spent some casual listening time with records from artists like Pyrrhon, Admiral Angry, Nails, Hereisaropegoodluck, Umbra Vitae, Alluvial, Vomit Forth & Cognitive. I still intend on giving the Knocked Loose album my full attention this month.
Quite a solid year for The Revolution. I had listened to and enjoyed all those releases that year, except the Graphic Nature album which I've checked out and reviewed today and is another blessing in the nu metal and metalcore realms.
Only one Revolution album received 4 star honors from me this year, and that was Allt's From the New World. I did like records from Ingested, Better Lovers and Weston Super Maim though.
Imminence's The Black was okay, but lacking songwriting from Heaven in Hiding. I hear that The Reclamation of I is better so I'll be giving that a listen very soon.
Likely AOTY winner You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To plays a style of beatdown metalcore that I am not a fan of and spent much of the year as the old man yelling at clouds as Knocked Loose were headlining festivals, performing on late night TV and getting promoted on every metal forum I frequent. Perhaps it is a style that I will never truly appreciate, but one more person listening to Knocked Loose is one less person listening to Five Finger Death Punch, so it can't be all bad right?
The only other one I came across was Heriot's Devoured By The Mouth Of Hell, which wasn't for me but I'm pretty sure the more Metalcore inclined listeners might get a lot out of it. The vocal contrast is pretty amazing.
