The Brutal Death Metal Thread
Deeds of Flesh - "Gradually Melted" E.P. (1995)
The debut release from this Californian trio was only intended to be a demo tape but it turned out well enough to see Wild Rags Records releasing it as a proper release. "Gradually Melted" is a four-song effort that spans just thirteen minutes however the band definitely get their point across in that short space of time. The early Deeds of Flesh records are amongst those that are the most regularly compared with my own band Neuropath & you won't find a better example of that than here as there are a ton of similarities. The dual vocals are in your face & aggressive, the riffs are angular & technical & the drumming is tight & brutal so we have everything that any self-respecting BDM fanatic could want. I actually think this might still be my favourite Deeds of Flesh release actually. It's great shit!
For fans of Defeated Sanity, Suffocation & Neuropath.

Checking this out as I type this and yes, I definitely get the comparisons with Neuropath. I am really digging what I hear and I think the earlier brutal death metal scene is something I am going to have to dig into deeper as it is an area of death metal I haven't covered so much. I often feel I have got so much catching up to do when it comes to death metal!
