Ha ha. Just noticed Noothgrush was autocorrected to Toothbrushes in the list above. Made me laugh anyway.
I finally got around to this playlist and found it suitably gloomy and desolate for my tastes. I like how the list ended on funeral doom, it just somehow seems really fitting for the end of The Fallen clan playlist to finish on such a sombre note. I can't call out any really bad tracks, although I remain on the fence with Karyn Crisis as it was a little too gothic and that Noothgrush track dragged on a bit. I am no fan of Witchfinder General though, I just don't get them.
I am going to be checking out more from Ea, Ether Coven and Benthic Realm
Yes on reflection, and on listening to the playlist, I should have gone for a shorter Noothgrush track. But again a thoroughly enjoyable playlist Sonny - I too like the way we end with some funeral doom. I haven't heard too much from Ea, but they are on my list to explore further, along with Froglord and Black Moth amongst others.
Funeral doom does seem to be well-suited for closing tracks on the playlists and it sometimes feels out of place when buried in the middle as it can result in a bit of a flat spot, whereas it gives a suitably mournful atmosphere with which to end when used as a closer.
I am happy to see some love for Ea, as they are one of my favourite funeral doom bands. They are a mysterious bunch though and have never revealed their identities. They sing in a dead Babylonian language that has been recreated by linguistic archaeology and variously claim to be from St. Petersburg in Russia, Wyoming and even Antarctica!
