Warning (German band)'s 1982 self-titled debut is doom metal, not avant-garde metal
The sound of this Neue Deutsche Welle band's debut album is more like alternating between the then-popular post-punk/new-wave sound and atmospheric doom. There's still some obvious experimentation throughout, but the faster songs show more of their new wave-ish side, and the guitars are more like an afterthought. It's only in the slower doomy tracks that emphasize the metal guitars, as well as lessening the experimentation, therefore bringing any of the metal present in this release closer to doom metal than avant-garde metal. So I'd like to submit Warning's 1982 self-titled debut to The Hall to be added to The Fallen and doom metal. If that entry concludes with more YES votes, I'll submit a second entry to see this release removed from The Infinite and avant-garde metal.
I have a lot to say about this record which I've really enjoyed since first discovering it during the Metal Academy podcast years. Firstly, this is a wonderful anomaly from the early scene. It's interesting that you haven't mentioned the strong Kraftwerk synthpop influence Andi because it's fairly obvious. Secondly, there is absolutely enough doom to qualify for The Fallen. In fact, I'd suggest that it was the darkest, doomiest thing the global metal scene had heard to the time & that includes the debuts from Witchfinder General & Pagan Altar which were both kinda borderline in my opinion. And thirdly, it's the very definition of avant-garde as far as I can see as it sounds like nothing before or since & combines influences that have no right to go anywhere near each other. You even talk about how outright weird the album is in your review.
I've passed the doom metal nomination uncontested Andi as I believe it to be pretty clear cut but if you wanna have the avant-garde metal tag removed then you'll need to go through the Hall & it'll be a NO from me.
I haven't listened to this for a while but I remember being perplexed at the doom metal tagging at the time. I have no wish to relisten to it and am not bothered enough to object to you passing it uncontested, Daniel, but i strongly disagree and just wish to illustrate that other opinions are available.
Very well Sonny. We shall go to the Hall on the doom metal association too.
Thanks, Daniel. I ultimately decided not to go through with making my second entry. Looking back at the album, I was so fixated on the amount of new wave/synthpop-like aspects in tracks like "Why Can the Bodies Fly?" that I underestimated the metal guitarwork being more than just an afterthought on those tracks. So I'm comfortable with this release being deemed avant-garde doom metal.
Very well Sonny. We shall go to the Hall on the doom metal association too.
Really, there is no need to Daniel. I am not confiident enough in my memory to vote and I really don't have any wish to revisit it. If you consider it a done deal then that is fine by me. I don't even know why I felt compelled to comment to be honest. As I have oftten been told, sometimes I really need to keep my opinions to myself!

Nah, I think you have a valid point. I personally disagree with hall entries being closed prior to voting.
