Mutoid Man's "Mutants" is more than just stoner metal
I've just had my first Mutoid Man full-album experience by checking out their new album Mutants. Although there's a lot of stoner metal, I wouldn't say that's inaccurate, but their sound is more like a hodgepodge of different styles. Many of the songs have the fast fury of hardcore/speed metal and the complex structure of progressive metal, among other rock/metal styles. Here's my genre analysis for the 10 tracks of the album:
1. Call of the Void - hard rock/speed metal
2. Frozen Hearts - speed metal/hardcore punk
3. Broken Glass Ceiling - stoner metal/hardcore punk/speed metal
4. Siren Song - stoner metal/heavy metal/progressive metal
5. Graveyard Love - hardcore punk/speed metal
6. Unborn - stoner metal/sludge metal/progressive metal
7. Siphon - metalcore/progressive metal/sludge metal
8. Demons - hard rock/pop rock/progressive metal
9. Memory Hole - stoner metal/sludge metal
10. Setting Sun - stoner metal/speed metal/progressive metal
Primary genres: Speed metal, stoner metal, progressive metal
Secondary genres: Hardcore punk, sludge metal
With that I'd like to send Mutoid Man's "Mutants" to the Hall with two entries for the album to be added to...
1. The Infinite as progressive metal.
2. The Pit as speed metal.
All while maintaining its position in The Fallen and stoner metal.
