Metal Academy presents "The Voice"

So I'm not afraid to admit that I've been really enjoying the latest season of "The Voice" here in Australia (i.e. the talent show where four celebrity judges sift through dozens of extraordinarily talented vocalists to come up with their ultimate winner) & have been wondering if we could run something similar here on the forums for a bit of fun. What I'm thinking is that I might post four YouTube links for tracks from different bands that fall into roughly the same category & then we'd all score them 1-4 (1 being the best, 4 being the worst). These votes would be based purely on the vocal performance & not the overall band with only the highest scorer going through to the next round. Then we'd eventually come to a champion from each clan who would go through to the finals with an ultimate winner being determined at the completion of the tournament. The four tracks in each round would be a mix of popularity levels ranging from household names to complete unknowns & would probably cross multiple eras whilst trying to stay within a similar realm.

So the big question is what you think of the idea. Would you guys participate or does it sound like complete torture? We'd need at least a few of you to be involved in the judging of each round along with myself. Is twice per week too much for you to commit time to listening to four performances? What's a good name for the tournament? Any other suggestions or ideas you might have to improve on the concept?

Hmm, not too sure about this one. With the feature releases and playlists that's already quite a bit of stuff to listen to in a month so I don't know if I'd want to commit to this in addition. I guess I'd give it a go and see where it leads.

Interesting idea, Daniel! My mother has also watched those kinds of talent shows like American Idol, The Voice, and Got Talent, so I know a bit of that concept. I feel up to participating, and twice per week is a great amount. I think a good name of the tournament would be... "Track Judgement Day"! (sounds too closely named to the Hall of Judgement, but it still makes sense)

Twice per week would be a struggle in all honesty.  Interesting concept though it is I don't fancy listening to four power metal vocalists or core screamo types 8 times a week or more in order to pass suitable judgement.  Others may have a different view of course but as Sonny says already lots going on with playlists and feature releases for me to expand input much further.  However, I am not knocking the idea as I can see its merits but not for me I am afraid.

Hhhmmm.... perhaps I was a little ambitious on the regularity. Would a fortnightly or monthly arrangement be more agreeable? We could just do one multi-subgenre round for each of the nine clans over 18 or 36 weeks with three semi finals & one final taking us to six months or a year. I'm not hellbent on the idea so feel free to pooh-pooh the whole concept if you don't find it appealing.

A fortnightly arrangement would be good.

I can't say this interests me personally, but if others want it...

I've got to admit that I'm not overly enamoured with the concept.

*scrunches up idea & throws randomly over shoulder into unsuspecting wife's face*

Wife angry at you for hitting her in the face with that idea and wanted to slap your face without committing an assault offence:

(First GIF here! ...I think)

Anyway, I seem to be the only one agreeing with your idea, Daniel, but sometimes a potentially good idea might not be one people are OK with. Oh well...
