Fake musicianship videos on social media

Have you guys seen the huge kerfuffle around fake drumming playthrough videos that's running rampant on YouTube right now? Well, it all started with Archspire advertising that they were looking for a replacement drummer & would be conducting open auditions. Essentially every extreme drummer on the planet sent through audition videos & people have started to scrutinize some of the best drummers in world in minute detail, often finding that they're all editing their videos in a dishonest way. It's fascinating stuff but it's also left me feeling a bit disappointed because some of these guys are people who I've admired & promoted to others over the years. It's also disappointing that people of this caliber think that they need to be inhumanly perfect when they're already incredible. It just goes to show how bad our social media epidemic has become. It has admittedly been hilarious to see highly revered guys like Marco Pitruzzella & Riccardo Merlini digging themselves further & further into holes though.

Is it possible that you could post a couple of links, Daniel, because I'm intrigued to see what you mean.

Just watched these videos and, sadly, I'm not really that surprised. So many people on social media wish to project an image of themselves that is duplicitous, why wouldn't it infect the extreme metal world too? Like the guys on the videos say, it's not that the drummers in question are poor musicians in the first place - I wish I was one tenth as talented - but society demands perfection whether in looks or ability, so dishonesty has become the norm. 95% is no longer good enough, 101% is the minimum requirement now that everyone is under the microscope.

What is really sad is that knowing they are being duplicitous must have a detrimental effect on their esteem and mental well-being.
