10 of your favorite metal bands NOT part of your clans
There are many bands that I enjoy that are strictly away from my current clan lineup (The Gateway, The Infinite, The Revolution, The Sphere). Here are 10 of my favorite bands in that category:
1. DragonForce (The Guardians - power metal)
2. Trail of Tears (The Fallen/The Guardians/The Horde - gothic/symphonic/melodic death metal)
3. October Tide (The Fallen/The Horde - melodic death-doom)
4. Insomnium (The Horde - melodic death metal)
5. Be'lakor (The Horde - melodic death metal)
6. Mercenary (The Guardians/Horde - melodic death metal with power metal tendencies)
7. Annihilator (The Guardians/Pit - thrash/heavy metal)
8. Sadus (The Horde/Pit - thrash metal with some deathly elements)
9. Unleash the Archers (The Guardians/Horde - power/melodic death metal)
10. Powerwolf (The Guardians - power/heavy metal)
So what are your top 10 favorite metal bands outside your clan lineup? Discuss! And remember, the challenge is, not a single release from your chosen bands should have one of your main clans.
OK, I'll give it a crack:
01. Mick Gordon
02. Alice in Chains
03. Botch
04. Leprous
05. Faith No More
06. Iron Maiden
07. Godflesh
08. Deftones
09. Ministry
10. Lucid Planet
Godflesh has a few albums deemed sludge metal, Daniel, but I understand, since you have objected to those releases having that genre tag.
In no order:
Alice in Chains
Deftones
FNM
Saxon
Iron Maiden
Motörhead
Judas Priest
Soundgarden
W.A.S.P.
Black Sabbath
None of the above is surprising given my spell in The Guardians clan before I switched to The Fallen. Deftones were a gateway band back into metal after a hiatus in the early noughties, the rest are pretty much longstanding bands from my youth and all (barring FNM) have significant physical copy presence on my shelves in my lair.
Godflesh has a few albums deemed sludge metal, Daniel, but I understand, since you have objected to those releases having that genre tag.
That's just a reflection of how little RYMers understand about sludge metal to be honest. There's never been a more obviously industrial metal artist than Godflesh. There's absolutely no need for any other tag, at least not on their classic releases.
Considering objections
Emperor (North, not including Prometheus as a prog album)
Alice in Chains (Gateway)
Type O Negative (Fallen)
Morbid Angel (Horde)
Soundgareden (Gateway)
Korn (Gateway)
Killing Joke (Sphere)
Converge (Revolution)
Blut aus Nord (North)
Trouble (Fallen)
You know you're in the right clans when you actually struggle to come up with 10 bands you truly love outside of them. Here's my shot at it...
Faith No More (Gateway)
Iron Maiden (Guardians)
Black Sabbath (Guardians)
Opeth (Infinite)
Arcturus (Infinite)
Mr. Bungle (Infinite)
Meshuggah (Infinite)
Godflesh (Sphere)
Ministry (Sphere)
Red Harvest (Sphere)
