What's going on with RYM?

Seriously, what the F is up with Rate Your Music?! There are some times when that site fails to load. Could be because of server issues or they're under maintenance. Either way, whatever the problem is, I really hope the people over there could fix it. I have some ratings to do there, along with looking up albums with songs I'm looking for when assembling the Revolution playlist that qualify as one of the Revolution genres in case a few of the bands are not yet in Metal Academy. What do you all think?

It was down for a few hours one day last week for maintenance but other than that as far as I'm aware it's OK. I've never had the issue, but apparently it is notorious for not responding or kicking you out if you are flicking from page to page too quickly as it thinks you are a bot. Maybe that is part of the issue Andi?

I have still never fully gelled with RYM.  Something about it just puts me off visiting with any sense of frequency.  I think it suffers from over-accessibility as simply anyone can rock up and shit words all over the page in endless lists (which I hate in case anyone hasn't noticed) and lacks any sense of community to me.  I mean, yes you all love a list here but everyone is sensible (ish) and the level of click-happiness seems to be less here due to the reduced number of members.

The bot thing is true, you would have to do one of those captcha tests to get back in if you've gone through too many pages in a short amount of time. So yeah, maybe.

Anyway, it's working fine again. Fingers crossed here...

Lately I've been thinking that I'd rather not use a competitors site for the task anyway & are planning on trialing the prioritized use of our Latest Reviews page (filtered by the clan in question) & the Track Of The Day threads in each clan forum so as to guide my track selection in a way that most accurately highlights the listening habits of the site. I can easily see the dates of each rating on the Latest Reviews page which makes it easy to pick the ones that you've all been listening to within the month in question.

How would you pick up stuff that we have been re-listening to that we have rated previously, possibly even years before, Daniel?

I wouldn't but it's not a perfect exercise. The clan members may nominate tracks from those releases anyway.

RYM seems to be completely down again right now. It's definitely been down a lot lately.

Makes it difficult for me to add new bands / releases to the site.
