Post your top ten thrash metal releases of all-time here
So I recently put together my all-time top ten thrash metal releases for inclusion in the Metal Academy Lists section & found that I'm as boring an old fuck as you've ever encountered with the list being made up of just four extremely well-known bands & spanning just eight years with nothing after 1991. This is very disappointing & certainly draws into question my metal credentials but what can I do? I call 'em like I see 'em & refuse to pander to the elitist mentality.

01. Slayer - "Reign In Blood" (1986)
02. Metallica - "...And Justice For All" (1988)
03. Slayer - "South Of Heaven" (1988)

09. Sepultura - "Arise" (1991)
10. Metallica - "Ride The Lightning" (1984)
What are all of your top tens?
OK, here we go...
1. Slayer - Reign in Blood (1986)
2. Metallica - Master of Puppets (1986)
3. Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion (1985)
4. Kreator - Coma of Souls (1990)
5. Sabbat - History of a Time to Come (1988)
6. Razor - Violent Restitution (1988)
7. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends (1986)
8. Sacrilege - Behind the Realms of Madness (1985)
9. Kreator - Pleasure to Kill (1986)
10. Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death (1990)
I guess my list only spans six years, but when you are talking about thrash is there really going to be much top ten material after 1991? This is a genre that definitely had a short(ish) classic era. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there isn't any decent thrash after'91, hell, I even dig some modern thrash albums, but all the above are 10/10's for me, in fact I had to leave some out: The Ultraviolence, Persecution Mania and Seven Churches to name but three. By the way, is there any genuine thrash-head who doesn't rate Reign in Blood as number one?
Yours is much more interesting than mine, damn you!
Well mine isn't quite as boring as Daniel's, but it's pretty close. I did manage to squeeze in a 1993 release, although one could easily argue that it sits more comfortably as a progressive metal release. It was either that or Coroner's Mental Vortex.
You can really tell how important ...And Justice For All was to Daniel and I. And yes, I enjoy Arise a little more than Beneath the Remains. They're both fantastic though.
01. Slayer - Reign In Blood (1986)
02. Metallica - Master Of Puppets (1986)
03. Sepultura - Arise (1991)
04. Metallica - ...And Justice For All (1988)
05. Sepultura - Beneath The Remains (1989)
06. Metallica - Ride The Lightning (1984)
07. Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss (1990)
08. Testament - The New Order (1988)
09. Slayer - South Of Heaven (1988)
10. Anacrusis - Screams and Whispers (1993)
Wow! You can really tell we grew up together, can't you? I would suggest that if you liked live albums & could tolerate Paul Baloff's vocal delivery we may have had the exact same ten!
This week it is:
1. Sepultura - Arise (1991)
2. Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (1990)
3. Metallica - ...And Justice For All (1988)
4. Kreator - Pleasure To Kill (1986)
5. Sadus - Swallowed In Black (1990)
6. Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence (1992)
7. Metallica - Master of Puppets (1986)
8. Sepultura - Beneath the Remains (1989)
9. Slayer - South of Heaven (1988)
10. Condor - Unstoppable Power (2017)
Well, mine is pretty dominated by a certain someone haha
1. Slayer - Divine Intervention (1994)
2. Slayer - South of Heaven (1988)
3. Slayer - Reign in Blood (1986)
4. Slayer - Show No Mercy (1983)
5. Slayer - Hell Awaits (1985)
6. Sodom - Agent Orange (1989)
7. Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (1990)
8. Slayer - Christ Illusion (2006)
9. Kreator - Terrible Certainty (1987)
10. Coroner - No More Color (1989)
I realize how ridiculous that looks, so if I limit it to one release per artist, the final six albums would be
Exodus - Bonded by Blood (1985)
Possessed - Revelations of Oblivion (2019)
Metal Church - The Dark (1986)
Angel Dust - Into the Dark Past (1986)
Paradox - Heresy (1989)
My list is very unconventional and perhaps contentious depending on who you ask:
1. Metallica - Ride the Lightning (1984)
2. Anthrax - Among the Living (1987)
3. Testament - The Ritual (1992)
4. Slayer - Season in the Abyss (1990)
5. Metallica - Master of Puppets (1986)
6. Kreator - Phantom Antichrist (2012)
7. Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black (1999)
8. Testament - Souls of Black (1990)
9. Vektor - Outer Isolation (2011)
10. Overkill - The Years of Decay (1989)
I'm actually pretty happy to see some of the lesser praised Testament albums on your list saxystephens. I really enjoyed those albums back in the day and feel they're harshly judged. You've made me want to go and listen to them again.
Glad you liked your 15th birthday present Ben. I put a lot of thought into it.
