Metal Academy 2022 Awards - The Pit Edition

First Post January 05, 2023 09:20 AM

So with the start of a new year it's once again time to have a look at the most important releases from the one that's just passed with the ultimate winner from each clan being announced in early February.

Here are the releases that are currently competing for the prestigious 2022 The Pit Release of the Year Award (i.e. they have 3 or more ratings) :

Critical Defiance - "No Life Forms" [Chilean thrash]

Deathhammer - "Electric Warfare" [Norwegian blackened speed/thrash metal]

Kreator - "Hate Uber Allies" [Teutonic thrashl]

Schizophrenia - "Recollections of the Insane" [Belgian death/thrash metal]

Which other releases do you think should come into contention so that our members can check them out prior to the end of month cut-off?

P.S. the current Pit feature release from Autonoesis ("Moon of Foul Magics") is a contender here for me.

Predictably (it is the monthly feature release) Autonoesis is now in the mix also.

I think that Daeva's Through Sheer Will and Black Magic... and Chemicide's Common Sense are the only other ones I can offer, I personally think this was a pretty weak year for Thrash overall.

With the award winners about to be announced, I thought I'd throw in my two cents by nominating the Critical Defiance album as my pick.
