2021 - The Year In Black Metal
So 2021 is two-thirds done and I thought I'd submit an interim black metal list of my top ten of the year so far and see what stacks up by year's end. The biggest climber in my affections since it's release is probably Kanonenfieber's Menschenmühle which has steadily risen up my personal chart to be currently sitting at number 3.
1. Panopticon - ...and Again Into the Light
2. Les Chants de Nihil - Le tyran et l'esthète
3. Kanonenfieber - Menschenmühle
4. Mare Cognitum - Solar Paroxysm
5. The Ruins of Beverast - The Thule Grimoires
6. Yith - Passage
7. Pan-Amerikan Native Front - Little Turtle's War
8. Wolves in the Throne Room - Primordial Arcana
9. Old Forest - Mournfall
10. Spectral Lore - Ετερόφωτος
- Mare Cognitum - Solar Paroxysm
- Forhist - Forhist
- Panopticon - ...And Again Into the Light
- Les Chants de Nihil - Le tyran et l'esthète
- Auld Ridge - Consanguineous Tales of Bloodshed and Treachery
- Æthĕrĭa Conscĭentĭa - Corrupted Pillars of Vanity
- Grima - Rotten Garden
- Wolves in the Throne Room - Primordial Arcana
- The Ruins of Beverast - The Thule Grimoires
- Old Nick - A New Generation of Vampiric Conspiracies
Unusually for me, I have listened to more than 3 records from the current year, although I still have a shit ton of stuff from this year that I will discover in 2024 and beyond I am sure. Not got around to new Panopticon, WITTR, Spectral Lore or Grima. That Nattverd is under threat along with Ungfell. I still have new output to get to from Leipa (the guy out of Kanonenfieber's more black metal than blackened death metal project), Wormwood, Odal and Ildaruni.
1. Mare Cognitum - Solar Paroxysm
2. Felled - The Intimate Earth
3. Kanonenfieber - Menschenmühle
4. Spectral Wound - A Diabolic Thirst
5. Mork - Katedralen
6. Yith - Passage
7. Fuath - ii
8. Les Chants de Nihil - Le tyran et l'esthète
9. Nattverd - Vandring
10. Ungfell - Es grauet
I knew I forgot something, so Esoctrilihum's days were extremely numbered. Auld Ridge has a fantastic album out that could go even higher since I have to revisit it again.
