The New Music Thread : The Infinite Edition

November 16, 2019 01:22 AM

Hell yeah, I believe I posted about Wilderun somewhere else already. This album as absolutely incredible, it skyrocketed to the Top 3 of 2019 for me.

Ben was checking that album out earlier this week & comparing it to classic Opeth. I've got it on my iPhone to listen to over the next few weeks on Xephyr's recommendation.

Let's keep this thread alive shall we?

I don't know very much about Robert Andersson or Morbus Chron, but this album, The Eternal Resonance by Sweven just appeared on RYM and early returns have been remarkably high. I'm listening to it right now and wanted to see if what anyone else thinks.

Mestarin kynsi - Oranssi Pazuzu

The widely accepted Gods of modern Avant-Garde Metal have released a new one today to seemingly massive critical acclaim by everyone except for me. I'm still on the fence about this one, since Oranssi Pazuzu has always been a challenge for me for some reason. I have hopes that I'll warm up to it the same way I did with Värähtelijä, but for now it seems like a more compact package that has a pretty dull A-Side an a fantastic B-Side. I'm sure my thoughts will change once I give it some more time, but hopefully this album doesn't go down the same road of indifference that Syntheosis by Waste of Space Orchestra did.

I had no idea Green Carnation were even recording new music! Woah! Gonna check out that video now. I was a big fan of Light of Day, Day of Darkness. Will be interesting to see what they sound like in 2020.

Caligula's Horse will release their new album later in May and the new single is straight FIRE. I played in 15 times the day it came out.

In fairness they haven't released a metal record in 15 years. I agree that "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" is an absolute belter too.

Caligula's Horse - Rise Radiant (May 22nd)

I know at least one other person in the Metal Academy community is excited for Caligula's Horse's new album, which drops tomorrow. I was pretty lukewarm on the first single, but I listened to another single and have started to warm up to it. Caligula's Horse is a pretty important band to me, so it'll be very interesting to see if Rise Radiant has what it takes to contend with their previous 3 albums. Although I love In Contact, I was always afraid of them going even farther down the poetic/theatrical rabbit hole, and it seems like they're pivoting towards a heavier and more synth heavy sound on this new one, so hopefully it's another winner.

I'll be doing my best to write a full review by the end of the day tomorrow, so be on the lookout!

I've really been enjoying that new Caligula's Horse album.

They've really become one of my favorite current bands out there.

Glad to find another Caligula's Horse fan around here, I had a feeling you'd enjoy Rise Radiant a bit more than I did from what you said about the singles when they dropped.

June 08, 2020 10:16 PM

I think Bloom will still be my favorite record by them (it's one of my all-time favorites), but Rise Radiant definitely has the potential to contend for 2nd.

If only "The Ascent" was a true emotional epic like "Graves". That would really push the album over the top past some of their others.

The new E.P. from Canadian progressive metallers Voivod entitled "The End Of Dormancy" which is due for release on 10th July. It has an brass section comprising of saxophone, trombone and trumpet.

Protest The Hero - Palimpsest

Protest The Hero are back with their first new album since 2013. I'm going to be putting quite a bit of time into this one, I like what I hear. I've really warmed up to Protest over the years, so this should be exciting.

Their comeback album after 7 years (or 4 years if including Pacific Myth)! Upon hearing this album's two singles, I can hear how mind-blowing this is gonna be for both longtime and new fans (me being in the latter category). Can't wait to hear the rest soon. Hardcore-ish progressive metal coming our way!
