August 2026 Featured Release - The North Edition

As the hotter months start to draw to a close let's keep The North tradition of having zero summer fun and dive into something probably a bit divisive that I came across this past month. Portugal one man Black Metal act Black Cilice came onto my radar with the release of Votive Fire this year and it reminded me of just how lo-fi Black Metal can really get after all this time. Apparently he's very consistent with his ideas, so I was interesting in diving into the back catalogue a bit to apparently his most popular release, 2017's Banished From Time.

So, let us know where you land on this one. Is this the true kvlt Black Metal atmosphere that people clamor for, or is it too much of a gimmick nowadays?

Black Cilice is one of those names I have seen bandied about a bit by black metal enthusiasts, yet have never listened to them myself. I think I always thought they were a bit avant-garde or some such and so I always put them on the back burner. A feature nom is a great excuse to rectify that situation and I am now looking forward to what may be to come from this.
