Can't post in some threads

There seems to be a thread or two where I am unable to post as there is no "Your Reply" box appearing. I have noticed it tonight when trying to post in "The New Music Thread : The Fallen Edition", but this is not the first time it has happened. There is nowhere for me to compose or post a reply. I even tried quoting the last post to see if that would open a reply box, but nothing came up. Has this thread somehow become "locked" or is it something else?

Yes, both my laptop and tablet have the same issue.

Ben, I'm wondering whether this is due to the same thing that's been causing these New Music threads to take a long time to load recently. I've long suspected that it's due to me having linked album covers where the links no longer work or where others have posted large cover images. Thoughts?

I usually get the album cover images from their respective release pages in this site, but if that's what causing all these issues, I can reduce their size for future posts.

If I do that then I reduce always their size from 1000 x 1000 to 600 x 600 which is a much more manageable size. There's no doubt that large images slow down the pages they're attached to so I'd recommend that you keep that in mind but I'm not sure that's all there is to this issue. I definitely noticed the New Music pages slowing down after I posted a number of links to cover images from RYM which were then updated so the link became invalid some time later. I could be wrong but I think that's had a bigger impact on our load speed. Perhaps the page is spending time searching for those links? I dunno. And page speed might not have anything to do with the issue that Sonny's reported here either.

Even though I'm not experiencing the same fault, there's definitely something dodgy about that thread as every time I post a response on it I get an "ERROR 500" error. When I refresh the page I find that the post has been accepted though.

The post had been set to Enable Admin Only, which is why you could add to it Daniel but others couldn't. You and I are the only ones that can enable that, so perhaps you clicked it accidentally (I haven't been to that thread in a long time). I've removed the Enable Admin Only option on the thread, so should be all good now.

Secondly, the thread loads really quickly for me (a couple of seconds per page). I can't see any issue, either on my PC or my phone.

The page loads quickly for me too, on both tablet and laptop. Could it be a network speed issue that's affecting yours Daniel?

Yes, I agree that it’s a complete mystery as to how that setting was engaged Ben. I guess we’ll never know.

The thread also loads pretty quickly for me...at least on my computer. There are some times when I'm using the site on my Android phone, and threads with many large album cover images end up taking so long to load that the tab would crash, and my phone having a lot of lag doesn't really help. That's another reason why I'm thinking of reducing image sizes in future posts, for the Android users around here.

Just on image sizes, I get mine from the band page thumbnails which seem to be of a much more manageable size when compared to the image on the album release page. Saves a lot of messing around resizing and whatnot.

Isn't there some way for forum software to automatically make a thumbnail of an image that's too big? I don't know how it works on this forum, but I've seen it on other forums.

On the topic of page-loading speeds, I've noticed that the Metal Academy homepage sometimes has difficulty loading, while every other page in the site is still OK. Does anyone else have that issue or is it just me? If it is a general issue, it might have something to do with any websites that are featured in the page like X (Twitter). What do you all think?

The Twitter links haven't worked since Elon Musk bought them out so I can't see that being a factor. He mustn't like metal much though.
