Interested purely by the artwork on this EP I decided to see what the content was like.  Needless to say that the tracks fall far short in the quality stakes when compared with the artwork.  Oddly positioned somewhere between progressive heavy metal and industrial sound effects (albeit on the odd occasion only), Red Cain's self-titled EP is perhaps one of the most unbearable releases I have heard from a vocal perspective.  The vocalist simply does not have the same level of ability as the rest of the band who are not remarkable artists in their own right but are clearly letting themselves down with the vocalist they chose.

Whilst the instrumentation is of reasonable stature it is horribly blended together with synthesisers to impose some illusion of cosmic sheen to proceedings when in fact it just irritates the life out of me.  Trying to sound like progressive power metal is a feat only a few bands can achieve and looking at images of the band they do seem to be a classic case of design over content.  There is nothing of enough depth here to create any swell or rise, no sense of the levels of passion or heart being able to be backed up by the deliverables on show.

The melodic elements of the album are probably the stronger as they are much simpler in essence and without the vocals are much more sticky with me.  The meandering and frankly wanky sections just bore me though and if that man doesn't stop singing then it may just tip me over the edge.
