Requests for The Guardians Releases / Bands to be added to Metal Academy
Well, the line between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal can be hard to discern, especially in the 70's. Budgie is one of the bands that's right in between, and I'd consider them Hard Rock and Heavy metal, but I suppose you couldn't say any of their albums are pure metal.
Though, if someone ever asked me who the second Heavy Metal band after Sabbath was, I'd say Budgie.
Personally I'm not as comfortable with 70's Budgie being considered as genuine metal. Their self-titled debut was certainly very heavy but I'm not sure that many of the riffs could be classed as metal as there was still too much blues involved in my opinion. The albums that followed it were just so varied that even if there might have been a metal track here & there, you'll find just as much folk music & prog rock included. The only release that I'd suggest comes pretty close to being metal was "Power Supply" from 1980 which was kinda 50/50 between hard rock & heavy metal. Judas Priest were the second heavy metal band for mine.
I respect that choice, originally I just figured they hadn't been added yet, but if you already decided not add them of course I understand.
I finished transferring my scores from RYM, the following are bands I couldn't find for The Guardians:
At Vance
Benedictum
Beyond Fear
Black Magic (nor)
Brothers of Metal
Cage
Coffeinne
Crucified Barbara
Cryonic Temple

Ben, please add the Motorhead/Girlschool split.
Could we get the new Blind Guardian Twilight Orchestra album added at somewhat priority? It has been out for a few weeks now and it's hard to think of many bands more important to this clan than Blind Guardian.
I'm not sure whether it would be filed under BG's profile or whether you should create a new entity for Blind Guardian Twilight Orchestra.
The album has no metal on it, so wouldn't normally be added to Metal Academy until they release something else that does. I think I'll make an exception in this case though, as it's highly doubtful they've left metal behind for good.
Yes, they still have their metal, with a heavy album coming next year. https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/blind-guardian-frontman-talks-next-studio-album-says-live-beyond-the-spheres-is-the-end-of-an-era/
Ben, please add Axewitch (Sweden).
Is it possible to add any Ghost releases past Opus Eponymus?
I know there is some debate regarding Ghost being metal past that point, if that's the reason for the lack of the albums. Personally, I don't see any issue still considering the band metal past that point, as I feel the band is still somewhat tied to metal culture regardless and each of the following albums still has a fair share of metal influence to it.
Thanks
Hi robiu013, and welcome to Metal Academy!
I'm afraid we have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to including releases that aren't considered to be metal. What I've been doing (and I think it's working well) is adding all releases for a band from their first one that is considered metal to the last one. So if Ghost were to release a metal album next year, then I would go back and add all their other releases since the debut (as a Non-Metal release with no clan). Basically, once a band stops being metal then they are no longer part of Metal Academy.
Otherwise the site would be filled with rock albums by bands like Anathema and The Gathering. Good albums, but they're not what this site is all about.
Cheers,
Ben.
Completely missed this reply until now.
It's a bit annoying to me, cause a handful of their later stuff is among my favourite output of theirs, but I get it.
Anyway, thanks for the reply :)
How about French heavy metal band Berserks?
Done.
Thanks Ben!
Ben, please add Dark Star (UK).

I'm a bit confused by the two releases listed on every site. Are they the exact same album, just released with titles in different languages, or is Pyre of the Black Heart a re-recorded version of Mustan sydämen rovio? Maybe it's the same album with lyrics in English?
For now I will just add the 2019 album Mustan sydämen rovio.
It looks like it is just a Finnish/English version, I had no idea Ben. Every single site acted like it was just a brand new release for 2020.
